As someone who grew up in the 1960s, I looked forward to his obscure references from the past.

I also respected the fact that he said whatever needed to be said, and didn't care what the teams or players thought about it - a refreshing change from so many of the local writers and TV people who kiss up to the players with softball questions, often framing their questions with built-in excuses for the players.

This latest development is a shame for all affected.Jim from Downingtownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01537007940455183397noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1504854198915382684.post-83078039407112100542011-12-20T22:07:55.962-05:002011-12-20T22:07:55.962-05:00Did not like his writing style so much so that he ...Did not like his writing style so much so that he was one of the very few sportswriters that I would not read even if I thought I might be interested in the content of the article. That's just me though.

The way that sexual abuse was (mis)handled years ago (and well now with Penn State) boggles the mind. At our elementary school, there were numerous credible allegations against the principal. As I remember complaints by parents went "up the line" and I don't know the details other than he retired after years of complaints. No police involvement that I was aware of. It seems like another world.Contrary Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13362063863211706180noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1504854198915382684.post-37972081049151671042011-12-20T21:07:26.573-05:002011-12-20T21:07:26.573-05:00Your title says it best:

And then we'd discuss if we agreed or disagreed with whatever point he was trying to make.

What a horrible shame.Jimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06161762602291616465noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1504854198915382684.post-11448792965220185422011-12-20T20:51:18.859-05:002011-12-20T20:51:18.859-05:00Whoa, that's heavy stuff.

This is me saying this from a distance, a long way from Philly, but I disagreed with a lot of what he said, and how he said it. I got the impression that he was stuck in the past. Still, I can see why he had the audience and job he had.

This, though, I don't know what to say.night owlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11673973790245316059noreply@blogger.com
