Dick Allen on MLB Network's Studio 42 tonight

Philadelphia Phillies Alum Dick Allen will be Bob Costas guest on the MLB Network's Studio 42 program tonight at 8PM Eastern. I am sure the show will rerun several times in the future too.

Allen played in Philadelphia before I was really cognizant of baseball, consequently I only know hime by reputation. His two tours of duty with the Phils are generally considered tumultuous but productive.

1975 Topps #307 Home Run Leaders-1974 Dick Allen/Mike Schmidt

He was known as Richie Allen when he first came up, but Allen eventually let it be known that he wanted to be referred to as Dick Allen.

The 1975 Home Run Leaders card is great for any Phils collector as it features both Allen and Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt.

In a different era Dick Allen may have been a Hall of Fame player - 351 Homers, Rookie of the Year (1964), AL MVP (1972). His Career OPS+ of 156 ranks 19th all time - The only players above him that are HOF eligible that are not in are Mark McGwire and two guys from the 19th century.

For The Collector

The 1964 Topps card is the Richie Allen Rookie card. It really isn't listed in many recent auctions - a poor condition card went for $3.00. The card is really barely above a common.

There are several 07 Sweet Spot Dick Allen Autos that have sold recently including one numbered to less than 100 that went for $5.84 shipped.
