As collectors we are familiar with the death bump phenomenon where a card or piece of memorabilia experince a bump in price (typically temporary) follwoing the death of the person on the card/magazine cover/bobblehead etc.

Apparently the charity, Second Mile, founded/associated wtih disgraced former PSU coach Jerry Sandusky, issued sets of Penn State Football trading cards. The Cards were distributed at many Pennsylvania schools. Related Patriot News Story here.
As of Phungo Press time the search "Second Mile Cards" on a certain auction site returns 90 Items! At least 4 of the items have bids - one item has a dozen bids.
Is this worse then a death bump, or is it just fans wanting to hold on to a piece of something that is really pretty much gone?

Spot the Sig - December 28th edition
I hope everyone has recovered from their holiday festivities. Actually I hope everyone is in the middle of a week off. Unfortunately, I am not and will be returning to work after a nice five days off.
Here is this weeks Spot the Sig! Auto which is good for a double to the first person who guesses it correctly.

And for the bonus we will be talking football. As you may know team Phungo also follows the Penn State Nittany Lions. Jo is a graduate of the school and we are looking forward to the Rose Bowl on Thursday night. You may have no interest in this game, but as an STS! participant your interest may change....
To get the walk or stolen base bonus, I am asking you to guess the winner and margin of victory in the game. The two teams are the USC Trojans and Penn State. To get the bonus you must pick the correct winner and by how much. Whomever is closest to the margin of victory gets the bonus. Example PSU by 35. Please have entries in by 11:00 AM (eastern) on January 1st 2009.
Here are the current STS! standings
PTBNL - repsresentin those Fightin Phillies - 4 Runs - bases empty
Stats on the Back - Mets - 1 Run in - Man on 3rd
Cardboard Junkie - Braves - 1 Run in - Man on First
Cardboard Addiction - Bosox - Man on First
Night Owl - Dodgers - Man on 3rd
A Cardboard Problem - Yankees - on Deck

Penn State @ Wisconsin
Quick nod to the Phils for going up 2-0 on the Dodgers Whoohoo!! Things are very happy in the Phungo Household today.
Now I would like to take some time on the Phils-Dodgers off-day to talk about Saturdays in the Fall.

2003? Wheaties Box Joe Paterno
I am not a Penn State alum, but my girlfriend is, this makes me a PSU in-law I suppose. Tonight we are hosting a party for the big PSU-Wisconsin game and I am Posting the Joe Paterno Box for a bit of good luck. Maybe these Wheaties can help Joe Pa get back on the sidelines for the game.
I had always been a casual fan of the Nittany Lions until I met my girlfriend, now we spend part of each autumn weekend watching some portion of the game. This was a little tough during the lean years - and always rough when they play Michigan - but PSU is looking a little more promising this season. It's hard to tell how good a team they are right now, because they really haven't faced much quality competition. Wisconsin hasn't faired well either but seem to have a competitive team every year. I fear tonights contest will be tighter than the #6 team in the nation visiting a team with an 0-2 conference record - Penn State will need to keep the mistakes to a minimum and play good football. If they can do that they will hopefully continue their winning ways.
GO PSU!
