2013 Phungo #6 Ryan Howard - out 6-8 weeks

On Monday the Phillies announced that Ryan Howard has been scheduled for surgery and will be out 6-8 weeks.

2013 Phungo #6 Ryan Howard

If those dates are accurate, best case scenario has Howard returning on Monday 8/19 v the Rockies.  That will be game 124 of the Phillies season. The Phils play 34 games in the interim. If the Braves play 2 games over that period they will be 68-54 (+14). To get to that the Phils would have to go 26-8 over that span.

A lot of things happen this time of year the All-Star break is much needed for the Phils, but immediately after that the Phillies could be severely revamped and Ryan Howard more than likely will be returning to a different team.

Phungo Card
Pix was taken on Phillies Photo day in 2012.  A great opportunity for fans to get out and gets some snapshots of their favorite players. At the time Ryan Howard had recently returned from the DL. he really hadn't hit well yet, but on that day he did get a 3 run homer.  Unfortunately it wasn't good enough as the Phils lost to the Giants 6-5 in extra innings.

Broken News: The Bill Mastro Honus Wagner Card Trimming

In the wake of the news regarding Bill Mastro and the t206 Honus Wagner card, I would like to issue the following statement:

I have an admission of my own.  I am also guilty of altering a card to increase the value.

1986 Topps #453 Steve Jeltz (RC - altered)

Yes I am guilty of altering the above Steve Jeltz card to sell it at a profilt. The dime I recieved for the card is far far more than it was worth in the original condition.

In fact the windfall I gained from the exchnage was likely far greater (percentage wise) than the amount Mr Mastro profitted from the sale of the T206 Wagner card.

I appologize to my family, friends, and the fans for the embarassment and hardship that I may have caused them.

Welcome Back Beavis and Butt-Head!!!

Beavis and Butt-Head are returning to MTV after a 15 year hiatus.  Not sure if I will be watching tonight - maybe I will take a peek during one of the pitching changes that are guaranteed to be happening at that point in the evening during game 6.

1994 Fleer Ultra MTV's Beavis & Butt-Head #1569 Beavis and Butt-Head Try Yogurt

The above card is from a Fleer Ultra release, during the boys original MTV run.  If you want to find out a little more about this set check out the pack break that Team Phungo ran  over at aPTBNL back in October of 2009.

Who is Lazier: Beckett or Sports Illustrated?

You may have noticed that Beckett has recently posted images of "Custom" Derek Jeter Baseball Cards representing every MLB Team.

1962 Faux Topps Derek Jeter (Phillies)

If you check the posting every single card is modeled after 1962 Topps.

How lazy is that - If a Card Blogger would cover the topic they would at least try a couple of designs just for kicks.

There is also the old conflict of interest issue always popping up w/  Beckett Pimping the upcoming Topps Heritage release.

Out of curiosity who is lazier Beckett for doing this or CNNSI.com for covering the story instead of checking into some real baseball card blogs - how bout recognizing the many blogs doing card by card analysis of individual sets (65 Topps, 73 Topps, 1975 Topps, 76 Topps) or How about giving some love to great recurring features like  The Card Back Countdown or the always amusing  Craigslist Idiot.

Broken News - UD announces Metrodome Legacy

To commemorate the Minnesota Twins 28 years of playing in the much celebrated Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome trading card giant Upper Dreck has announced that it will produce a Metrodome Legacy Set. The set will consist of 2243 cards each representing a specific game in the Twins Storied Metrodome History.

2009 Upper Dreck #69 Denard Span

The card pictured above represents a Twins win on September 13th of their inaugural season in the Metrodome. This card also represents a memorable game where the Twins drew an incredible 2,795 Fans.

Similar to another recent insert set (Yankee Stadium Legacy) the Metrodome Legacy will feature players that didn't play in the game noted on the card. In fact for this set Upper Dreck has gone a step further and placed Denard Span on a card representing a game that was played before he was even born.

##############################

I firmly believe that I put no more time into this custom card and post than UD put into the Real YSL Set.
